Paypay`s latest campaign: “Machi no Pay Matsuri” from September to November 2021.

What is Paypay
PayPay is a smartphone app and is a QR code payment service.
This is the second most used cashless service in Japan.
If you charge the app with money in advance, you can use the app to make payments.
There are several ways to charge, but if you register a bank, you can charge online immediately.
Paypay latest campaign: Machi no Pay Matsuri
When is the latest campaign?
The campaign will run for about two and a half months from September 13th to November 28th, 2021.
Campaign #1: 20% points back by using Paypay in the city
If you pay at stores during the campaign period, 20% of the amount you paid will be returned to your PayPay balance at a later date.
For example, if you pay 1000 yen, 200 yen will be charged to your Paypay balance at a later date.
And if you haven’t used Paypay or haven’t used it for half a year, you’ll get 40% money back instead of 20%.
There are four conditions for this campaign.
- Valid only at stores eligible for the campaign
- Valid only for scan payments
- Valid only for balance payments
- Only up to 1000 yen will be returned
1. Valid only at stores eligible for the campaign
20% of the money will not be returned unless the store is eligible for the campaign.

The campaign store is signed as “街P祭”.
If you tap “街のお店” at the top of the screen, only the shops of the campaign will be displayed.
In addition, if there are posters or tags of the campaigns in the store, it is a campaign store.
My recommendation is to save money by using it at the drugstores and supermarkets targeted for the campaign.
2. Valid only for scan payments
Payment with Paypay includes barcode reading and QR code reading.
However, this campaign only targets QR code scanning.
If you show the barcode and pay, it is not eligible for the campaign.
3. Valid only for balance payments
There are two ways to pay with Paypay: pay with your Paypay balance or with a credit card registered with Paypay.
This time, payment from the balance will be the target of the campaign.
In other words, those who register and pay by credit card are not eligible for the campaign.
The exception is Yahoo! Card only.
Yahoo! Card can be specially charged to your Paypay balance.
4. Only up to 1000 yen will be returned
The total amount of money returned by this campaign will be up to 1000 yen at all stores.
This is the same even if you are 20% 40%.
So for 20% of people
If you pay 5,000 yen, you will reach the upper limit of 1,000 yen, which is 20%.
For 40% of people
If you pay 2,500 yen, you will reach the upper limit of 1,000 yen, which is 40%.
Don’t forget to check if the store has a coupon.
You may be able to use the 20% campaign and coupons together.
Campaign # 2: First time users get 500 yen
This campaign will run from August 25th to October 31st, a little earlier than the Machi no pay matsuri campaign period.
Those who use Paypay for the first time can get a balance of 500 yen.
In order to receive 500 yen, both of the following conditions must be met.
- First time using paypay
- dentity verification and identification should be taken with a photo of the app to verify your identity.
The Paypay homepage states, “We verify your identity in accordance with the law to prevent money laundering and terrorism.”
Campaign # 3: Get 500 Yen by Referral
This campaign runs from September 13th to October 31st.
There are two conditions for the referred person to receive 500 yen.
One is to enter the referral code, and the other is to make a payment of 1,000 yen or more.
The referral person needs to register a bank account and verify their identity with the app.
